Islington/Finsbury Park artists wanted for new research on cultural work
We are researchers at the University of Leeds interested in speaking with self-employed ‘cultural workers’ – including artists, authors, actors, musicians, as well as those in more technical/specialist roles such as architecture and design.
Our research aims to explore whether work in these sectors might offer a kind of ‘sustainable prosperity’, in which individuals have opportunities for increased levels of well-being and happiness that are not tied to material consumption. To do this we want to speak with cultural workers about their working lives, the rewards their practice provides, and also the trade-offs made to maintain these careers and ways in which they might be unsustainable.
Participants should live or work in Islington/Finsbury Park, be self-employed/freelance, and be willing to take part in two interviews, the first in September 2016 and the second in late 2017/early 2018.
We will share our findings with arts and cultural organisations and businesses, schools and universities, and government, so that they can better meet the needs of cultural workers.
