MD. MEHEDI HASAN
Mehedi is a PhD researcher at the University of Canterbury (UC) in Christchurch, New Zealand. In CUSP, he is working on the CYCLES project (Children and Youth Lifestyles Evaluation Study).
Working at the Civics-Lab at the University of Canterbury, Mehedi’s doctoral research is supervised by CUSP co-investigator Bronwyn Hayward. His research investigates the linkage of innovative public spaces in the context of the lifestyles of young people in Dhaka city, Bangladesh. He will explore and analyse the existing situation of public spaces and their usability, management and accessibility for young people in Dhaka.
Prior to commencing his PhD, Mehedi completed a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURP) and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Jahangirnagar University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was the top ranked student in his department. His undergraduate thesis examined the mismanagement and illegal use of the playgrounds by authorities, which made them less accessible for children and young people. Mehedi also worked as a faculty member in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) at Jahangirnagar University for seven years. His research area is sustainable urban planning, environmental planning and climate change and he has published in these fields.
